Galaxy S27 Ultra May Deliver Faster 5G with Qualcomm X105

Samsung’s Galaxy S27 Ultra may benefit from Qualcomm’s new 5G model, the X105. Qualcomm unveiled the modem at MWC 2026, promising a big leap in wireless performance, efficiency, and satellite connectivity. The company may integrate the modem into its next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor coming later this year.
Qualcomm’s X105 modem may make it to the Galaxy S27 Ultra
The X105 touts improvements in speed, reliability, and spectrum efficiency across both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G bands. On paper, the new modem delivers peak download speeds up to 14.8Gbps and upload speeds up to 4.2Gbps. While real-world performance depends on carrier networks, these figures indicate stronger headroom for high-density urban environments and next-gen 5G deployments.
Qualcomm also claims major improvements in power efficiency, with the new RF transceiver paired with the X105 modem consuming up to 30% less power. This could translate into better battery life during streaming, gaming, and large downloads. The modem also adds quad-frequency GNSS support, improving location accuracy, especially useful for navigation, delivery services, and outdoor tracking.
Moreover, its on-device AI capabilities can predict and optimize network conditions in real time. Device makers like Samsung can use AI APIs from Qualcomm to fine-tune connectivity behavior, including intelligently switching networks, managing signal stability, and optimizing data flow.
Satellite connectivity and emergency support
The X105 supports NR-NTN (New Radio Non-Terrestrial Network), enabling direct communication with Low-Earth Orbit satellites. Compatible devices can make calls, send texts, and access data services even where traditional cellular coverage is unavailable. It also supports NB-IoT fallback connectivity, allowing limited messaging in challenging environments like elevators or underground parking garages.
If integrated into the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, the X105 could make it to Samsung’s Galaxy S27 Ultra. That said, there are rumors that the next Ultra could feature an Exynos processor. We should get a clearer picture in the coming months.
