In recent years, foldable phones have become lighter, slimmer, and more durable while offering powerful features. This has attracted consumers, many of whom now want to try the experience of this new form factor. A recent survey suggests that around 30% of iPhone users want to upgrade to a foldable device, with the majority preferring Samsung’s offerings.

Survey reveals Apple fans are eager for a foldable iPhone

SellCell has recently conducted a survey of over 2,000 US iPhone owners to understand their upgrade intentions ahead of the iPhone 17 launch. The results showed that nearly 70% of users want to upgrade their iPhone. However, one of the most interesting questions in the survey was about foldables: If Apple does not release a foldable until 2026 or later, how likely are you to switch to Samsung or Google for your next phone?

It revealed that about 70% of iPhone users will wait for Apple’s first foldable smartphone. Out of the remaining 30% of users, 20% said they would choose the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, while 10% would consider the Google Pixel Fold. This suggests that if Apple delays the release of its foldable iPhone, some users may pick another brand’s offering.

So, it’s high time for Apple to introduce this new form factor to the market. Rumor has it that Apple may launch its foldable iPhone in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. While the foldable market remains a niche segment, consumer interest has been steadily increasing. For example, Samsung saw solid demand for its newly released foldable models globally during the pre-order period worldwide.

The latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the company’s most advanced book-style foldable device to date. It measures just 8.9 mm thick when folded, a whopping 48% thinner than the original Galaxy Fold from 2019. Under the hood, we get Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset. Thanks to a 200MP main camera sensor, it delivers pro-grade photography. If you are interested, you can check out these:
