Samsung has been taking pre-orders for the new launches, which are expected to hit store shelves in just a few days. As you may already know, both Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 represent a major redesign compared to their predecessors. Specifically, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 now features a much larger screen in a surprisingly thin form factor.

Even Samsung notes that the upgrades aren’t just typical. According to Samsung’s design leadership, these aren’t typical yearly updates but a complete redesign from the ground up. In a blog published by the company, Samsung’s Hubert Lee and Huichul Yang discuss the new foldables.

“Change wasn’t a choice; it was a must,” said Hubert Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Design for Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) business. “We didn’t approach this as a refinement — we approached it as a redesign from the ground up. We approached it as if we were starting completely from scratch.”

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is now the thinnest and lightest model in the Fold series. Samsung’s teams focused on reducing weight and thickness while increasing screen size, aiming for a sleek, modern form. “The product you see is the result of countless hours of deliberation, passion and engineering,” Lee said.

On the software side, Samsung introduced One UI 8, bundled with AI integration in mind. Huichul Yang, Vice President of the MX business, explained, “With One UI 8, we focused on meaningful productivity. We took advantage of the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s large-screen form factor to enable users to easily compare original and AI-generated content side by side and move it seamlessly between apps.”

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 features a full-front FlexWindow and AI integration through Samsung’s Gemini assistant. “One of the standout features of the Z Flip 7 is its full-front FlexWindow,” noted Yang. For the uninitiated, the FlexWindow is what Samsung prefers to call the cover screen.
