How to Reset Auto Brightness on Samsung Galaxy Devices

by | Mar 5, 2025 | One UI, Tutorial

Weโ€™ve all had problems with our deviceโ€™s auto brightness at one point or another. Sometimes it gets too bright, or stays too dim. For standard Android devices, you can go to Settings, Apps, Show System Apps, find Device Health Services, Clear Data, and clear the Adaptive Brightness settings. But try those steps on a Samsung Galaxy device, and it simply does not appear. So, how do you reset auto brightness then? Itโ€™s much simpler than you might initially expect.

How do you reset auto brightness?

The first step is to go into your deviceโ€™s Settings. Once there, select Display, and then switch off Adaptive Brightness. This action will reset the brightness settings. You should wait approximately five minutes for the system to reset its knowledge of your brightness preferences, and then switch Adaptive Brightness back on. Some users on the Samsung Members forum have mentioned that restarting the device after switching off Adaptive Brightness helps too.

Additionally, you can also try clearing the app data from Device Health Services, which is the app responsible for Adaptive Brightness on your Samsung Galaxy device. However, be cautious, as this may cause other side effects. This method should be considered as a last resort if the first method does not work.

Manually adjusting the screen brightness when auto brightness is enabled actually teaches your device your brightness preferences, based on time, location, your environment, etcโ€ฆ So over time, you never have to worry about your phone blinding you at night, or being too dim outdoors. Also, some screen protectors may block some of the light outputted by your phoneโ€™s display, or interfere with the phoneโ€™s ambient light sensor. Follow these simple guidelines and youโ€™ll keep your auto-brightness working great on your Galaxy device.
