Recent reports regarding the leadership of Samsungโs Mobile Experience (MX) division surprised everyone in the tech industry. The report suggested that TM Roh, who is the Head of the MX division, could be replaced by Choi Won-joon. Since then, Samsung fans have started speculating, saying it could be because of the One UI 7.0 rollout delay. But it was a false alarm.
Samsung confirms TM Roh remains MX head
Shortly after the rumor surfaced, Samsung jumped in to refute this claim. The firm shared a statement with SamMobile, saying, โTM Roh is not being replaced by Choi Won-joon.โ The company said Choi has just been promoted as the president of Samsung MXโs Development Division. This clears up the misunderstanding and confirms that TM Roh is still in his position.
Now, coming to the original story from where those speculations sparked, Ice Universe recently posted on X saying, โSamsung Electronics has appointed Vice President Choi Won-joon as President of the MX (Mobile Experience) Development Division. As per tradition, he will soon succeed Roh Tae-moon as President of the entire MX business.โ While the former part of his post is true, the latter part turns out to be inaccurate.
According to a Korean outlet, Chosun, Samsung promoted Choi Won-jun to the president of the MX Development Division because of his contribution to the success of the Galaxy S24 and S25. Choi was born in 1970 and studied electrical engineering. He got his bachelorโs and masterโs from Seoul National University and PhD from Stanford University.
He was previously a researcher at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Choi also served as a senior engineer at Aseros Communications, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Amicus Wireless, and a senior director at Qualcomm. In 2016, he joined Samsung Electronics, leading the team of Strategic Product Development 1 in the Wireless Business Division and as the head of the Next Generation Product Development Team.
