Samsung is known for delivering timely software updates to its phones. While the company may not have lived up to that reputation with a massively delayed beta release of Android 15-based One UI 7.0, its monthly security patches are still on track. The Galaxy S22 series is the latest to receive the December 2024 security update in the US. The Galaxy A55 also recently received the latest patch.
December security update is rolling out to the US Galaxy S22 and A55
As usual, Samsung’s December security update, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release), patches a bunch of vulnerabilities. To be precise, the company patched 44 security issues across its Android-powered Galaxy devices this month. Most of these patches come from Google and address Android OS flaws, though some are exclusive to Galaxy products.
Samsung has already updated several Galaxy phones to the December SMR. The Galaxy S22 series also received the update in some international markets. The US units are now joining the party, starting with carrier-locked units. We can confirm the rollout on AT&T, Verizon, and a few other networks. The new build number for the 2022 flagships is S90*USQS7EXK9.
Samsung should soon update both locked and unlocked Galaxy S22 variants across all carriers. While the latest software release doesn’t introduce new features, it ensures a safer and more stable user experience. You should install the update as soon as it is available for your phone.
On that note, the Galaxy A55 is also receiving the December update. This premium mid-range phone wasn’t launched in the US but is sold in most other regions. Samsung recently updated the Galaxy A54 and A53 as well. All of these phones should receive One UI 7.0 sometime next year. The company recently rolled out the second beta build for the Galaxy S24 series. The stable release arrives in January.
