Huawei made waves on the internet when it unveiled the Mate X, but there’s one issue — it’s not available in global markets as of now. So if a recently published patent is any indication, Samsung may be preparing to launch its own tri-fold Galaxy device in the near future. While we were aware of Samsung’s plans to launch a tri-phone, courtesy of ZDNet Korea, the patent details more to it.
Patent details what appears to be Galaxy tri-fold
As MSPowerUser reports, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has released a technical document that appears to be related to the rumored Samsung Galaxy tri-fold. What’s particularly noteworthy is that the patent was originally filed in 2021 and has only now been made public. This suggests that the rumors surrounding the Galaxy tri-fold may, in fact, be true.
As detailed in the patent, there will be improvements in screen tech, including a stronger protective layer for the inner display and special openings to reduce stress at the hinges. The design also features an anti-reflective coating, made from synthetic resin or another material, per document. Plus, the screen could be built from glass and stainless steel.
Samsung Galaxy tri-fold (still) has a solid chance of becoming first globally
If Huawei doesn’t release the Mate X globally — which seems increasingly unlikely given the ongoing U.S. sanctions — then Samsung’s potential tri-fold phone could very well become the premier tri-fold device available worldwide. Huawei also faces challenges because it doesn’t have access to Android or Google apps, making a global launch even more difficult. Worth noting is how Trump sees these sanctions as he prepares to take charge as the 47th President of the United States.
For now, it’s best to wait, as filing patents doesn’t always lead to actual product launches. But let’s keep our fingers crossed and given how Samsung wants to stay innovative in the game, the launch is highly likely and Samsung could release a Galaxy tri-fold phone eventually.
