Samsung just announced a wave of new SmartThings features in a recent newsroom post, to deepen its connection with the Samsung ecosystem. Here’s everything new they announced.
Sleep Environment insights with Samsung Health integration
This gives deep insights into your sleep environment from various smart sensors, like temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide and light intensity, and complies them into a report that appears within the Now Brief. And, when paired with a Galaxy Watch or Ring, SmartThings can adjust the environment based on set sleep and wake times. So it can turn the lights and TV off at night, or open the curtains and pop the kettle on as you wake up.
SmartThings Routines gets more options
SmartThings now supports automations based on recurring schedules. That can be weekly, monthly or annually. This can be good for setting the lights a certain colour on a birthday. They also announced integration with Samsung TV Plus on their 2025 line of TVs. So it can switch on the news for you in the morning, or switch to a favourite channel at a set time, so you never forget.
Broadcast your voice across your home
A broadcasting feature similar to what Google has is finally coming to supported SmartThings speakers, which is great for sending voice messages across the house, or even remotely. Some use cases are calling everyone for dinner, or making sure the kids are okay while you’re out shopping.
Samsung expands Calm Onboarding to third party devices
Calm Onboarding is a feature released in 2023, which helps simplify new device setup when a Samsung appliance was bought from their website. It gives order tracking tracking information while it’s shipping, and an easy connection process when it arrives. Now Samsung is expanding that to third parties, for a better end to end experience for users. Any SmartThings compatible device bought through Samsung’s website will get delivery updates from within the SmartThings app, as well as step-by-step instructions for setting the device up. They say the rollout will begin in Korea, and expand into a total of 14 countries, including the United States, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
Matter 1.4 support is here
SmartThings will now support the latest version of the Matter standard, 1.4, which brings support for water heaters, heat pumps, solar power devices, battery storage devices, mounted on/off switches and dimmable loaf control devices. This builds upon the wide range of supported devices, including lights, thermostats, air conditioners, and more.
