Samsung has kicked off its September 2024 security update rollout for Galaxy smartphones and tablets. After bundling the latest security patch with the big One UI 6.1.1-based update for the Galaxy S24 series, the company is now pushing it to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Other eligible devices will pick up this update in the coming days, including the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The company has already detailed the contents of the new security patch.
Samsung rolls out September security update to the Galaxy Z Fold 6
The September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for Galaxy devices is a pretty big one. It contains 67 vulnerability patches, at least one of which is a critical security flaw. 44 of these are Android OS patches from Google, while the other 23 patches are for Galaxy vulnerabilities and patched by Samsung. Among other things, the Korean firm patched high-severity issues with ThemeCenter and DualDarManagerProxy system apps.
Samsung recently rolled out the latest SMR to the Galaxy S24 trio, bundled with the new One UI 6.1 update. It is now rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, starting in the US. The update comes with the firmware build number F956USQS1AXHB for carrier-locked units, weighing 436MB. Factory-unlocked units may or may not get an identical build number but the content will remain the same. The update only brings this month’s security fixes.
Samsung will gradually expand the September SMR to more Galaxy devices globally. Since it is rolling out the One UI 6.1.1/6.1 update to eligible models, the latest security patch may come bundled for those. The company is also preparing to launch its Android 15-based One UI 7.0 beta program. It may be available for the Galaxy S24 series later this month. The stable One UI 7.0 update may arrive in November. We will keep you posted on these updates.
