On Thursday, October 3, Samsung hosted its annual Developer Conference (SDC) in San Jose. The company shared plenty of exciting details about the future of Galaxy phones and other products. We caught an extensive look at the upcoming One UI 7 update. Amidst a myriad of UI changes and redesigns, the update seemingly brings a new feature called Galaxy Avatar.
Galaxy Avatar is an “advanced” One UI 7 feature
Samsung has a Galaxy S24 Ultra running One UI 7.0 on exhibition at SDC 2024. If offered us a fairly detailed at the UI changes in the pipeline for Galaxy users. Somewhere hidden in the Advanced Features menu was a new tool called Galaxy Avatar. It lets you create personalized avatars, likely using AI and AR (augmented reality). Along with still images, you can create avatar videos.
The tool also includes options like Avatar Stickers and Avatar Camera, further suggesting an AR-based feature. Additionally, it offers the ability to design new outfits for your avatar. If all of this sounds familiar, that’s because Samsung already offers a similar feature with its AR Emoji app. It provides various tools for creating personalized avatars.
This makes us wonder if Galaxy Avatar is a rebrand of AR Emoji or if Samsung is readying something new. Considering the amount of changes One UI 7 brings to the table, we won’t be surprised if it decides to rename the AR tool. The company has renamed Galaxy AI menu items in Settings for good, and the Galaxy Avatar brand explains the purpose better than AR Emoji.
We might have to wait a while for the answer. Samsung isn’t expected to release One UI 7 beta until December this year. Whether leaks reveal more information about Galaxy Avatar before the beta rollout, only time will tell. We will keep you posted with the latest information about One UI 7 as it comes. The stable update arrives in early 2025 with the Galaxy S25 series.
