Samsung’s Upcoming XR Headset Will Support Google Find My Device

by | Dec 20, 2024 | Galaxy XR, News

The rumors surrounding Samsung’s XR headset weren’t just smoke and mirrors. Samsung has officially confirmed that it’s indeed been working on the XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, in partnership with Google’s Android XR platform. Moohan means “Infinity” in Korean, so that’s where the plan is heading. What’s a joint effort between Google and Samsung is seemingly Android’s take on Apple’s top-dollar $3,500 Vision Pro mixed-reality headset.

Samsung’s Android XR will support Google Find My Device

In an interview with Android Faithful, Shahram Izadi, Google’s VP and General Manager of the AR/XR department, confirmed that Samsung’s XR device will support Google’s Find My Device feature, making it easy to track the Samsung XR. While you might have already suspected this, given Google’s involvement, the official confirmation really adds the cherry on top.

Izadi also highlighted that Android XR will support a variety of familiar Android features, particularly those under the “Better Together” category. Although he refrained from spilling more beans — or naming specific features — Quick Share could very well make the cut. Additionally, multi-user support and Family Link might also be in the works.

Samsung’s Android XR headset is coming next year

Anticipation is building for Samsung’s upcoming Android XR headset, which is expected to debut next year, though a clear launch timeline remains elusive. At its core, the headset will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip. “We are excited to collaborate with Google to reshape the future of XR, taking our first step towards it with Project Moohan,” said Won-Joon Choi, Samsung’s EVP.

Rumor has it that Samsung might tease the headset at CES 2025 in early January, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed. If and when that happens, we’ll be sure to share more details, as we’ll be attending CES in Las Vegas from January 6-11.
