Jong-Hee (JH) Han, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, has passed away at the age of 63. Han suffered a heart attack on March 22 and was taken to Samsung Hospital in Seoul. Sadly, he did not recover and passed away on March 25. Han played a major role in the companyโs success. He led the TV and home appliance business and helped Samsung become the worldโs largest TV manufacturer for the past two decades.

In its internal notice, Samsung confirmed his passing, saying, โWe mourn the deceased who dedicated 37 years to the company. The deceased led the global top position in the TV business and has always done their best as the head of the institutional sector and head of the DA business division, even under difficult domestic and external circumstances.โ Hanโs funeral is scheduled for March 27, with his memorial set up at Samsung Seoul Hospital.

Han was born in 1962. He studied electronic engineering at Inha University before joining Samsung Electronics in 1988. He joined the development team of the video division and worked on improving TV technology. Over time, people recognized him as an expert in the TV field. In November 2017, Han became the head of Samsungโs video display division. Under his leadership, Samsung continued to dominate the global TV market. Due to his achievements, Samsung promoted him to vice chairman and CEO in 2021. In his new role, he oversaw Samsungโs consumer electronics and IT/mobile businesses.
Just days before his passing, Han spoke at Samsungโs 56th shareholdersโ meeting on March 19. He talked about Samsungโs future and shared his plans to grow the company. He said Samsung would continue to take on new challenges in several areas, including robotics, medtech, and next-generation semiconductors, to secure new growth engines driven by the growth of the AI industry.
Jong-Hee Han was also supposed to give the keynote speech at โWelcome to Bespoke AI,โ a major Samsung home appliance event, on March 26. However, after his sudden heart attack, another executive from the DA business division will take his place as the keynote speaker.
