Samsung Unveils new QD-OLED TVs with 4,000 Nits Brightness

by | Jan 6, 2025 | News, TV

Samsung debuted a bunch of new TVs at CES 2025, including The Frame Pro, an upgraded version of its popular lifestyle TV. The new models come in bigger sizes and offer higher refresh rates and brightness. They can reach over 4,000 nits of peak brightness, up more than 30% from the previous high of 3,000 nits. All of these TVs will be showcased at the big event starting tomorrow, January 7.

New Samsung TVs boast over 4,000 nits of brightness

Samsung’s new 2025 QD-OLED TVs feature “advanced panel-driving technology and new organic materials,” allowing them to achieve a brightness of over 4,000 nits. According to noted display expert Ross Young, the company has moved to all deuterium hosts. All three host colors (RGB or Red, Green, and Blue) use deuterium, something its M14 OLED panes for smartphones also do.

The M13 screens feature deuterium only in Green and Blue host colors, so it’s likely that Samsung uses the same technology for its previous QD-OLED TVs, which go up to 3,000 nits. Alongside a brightness boost, this change in materials is also said to enhance the screen’s efficiency and lifespan. Young adds that the latest TVs use three blue and two green emitting layers to achieve a higher peak brightness.

Additionally, Samsung announced OLED TVs up to 83-inch in size, with a 165Hz refresh rate. The company unveiled three models: S85F, S90F, and S95F. The former two feature a glossy finish and come in 55-inch, 65-inch, 77-inch, and 83-inch sizes. The latter offers Glare Free technology for reduced glare and reflections and adds two more sixes: 42-inch and 48-inch.

While the 83-inch version of these TVs uses LG Display’s WOLED panel, other sizes feature Samsung’s QD-OLED technology. They all offer a 165Hz variable refresh rate. Samsung may reveal additional details, including the processor and OS version, during the CES 2025 exhibition. Pricing and availability information is also still under wraps.
