Samsung could be upgrading the main cameras on the Galaxy S26 series next year. Following rumors about the Galaxy S26 Ultra being tested with an improved 200MP primary camera, new reports indicate similar upgrades for the S26 and S26+. While these models won’t feature a 200MP camera, they might come with new 50MP sensors. The aging 10MP 3x zoom lens is still part of this early testing.
The Galaxy S26 and S26+ may get a new 50MP camera
For the past few years, Samsung has shipped its Ultra flagship with a 200MP main camera and the other two models with a 50MP unit. The Galaxy S25 series uses the exact same sensors as the S24 for these cameras. Across the lineup, only the S25 Ultra’s ultrawide camera has been upgraded this year, switching from a 12MP unit to a 50MP one. All other cameras reuse an old sensor.
It’s unclear if Samsung will bring the new 50MP ultrawide camera to the smaller models next year, or if it will offer the same 12MP unit once again. However, according to X leaker @PandaFlashPro, the company is currently testing the Galaxy S26 and S26+ with an upgraded 50MP main camera. Sensor details are not available yet, but the new camera should deliver notable improvements in image quality.
Not that the Galaxy S25 and S25+ are poor at it. Despite unchanged hardware, these phones capture better photos and videos across all lighting conditions, all thanks to software refinements and enhanced processing. However, their 3x zoom camera is no longer up to the mark. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will upgrade it next year.
The Galaxy S26 series is still a year away. Samsung is currently testing early prototypes for the 2026 flagships. It will be a while before the company finalizes the specs for the devices and starts component production. Until then, things could change anytime. We will keep you posted with the latest information about the Gaalxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra.
