Samsung launches microSD cards inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog
This collaboration between Samsung and SEGA sees the former introduce custom Sonic-themed Pro Plus series microSD cards in four sizes: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Each features a special design depicting iconic characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The 12GB card features Knuckles, 256GB has Tails, 512GB has Sonic, and 1TB has Shadow.
Sonic the Hedgehog fans would find it relevant, Samsung has also color-coded the cards to some extent: Red for Knuckles, Yellow for Tails, Blue for Sonic, and Black for Shadow. Otherwise, these are the same storage cards already available under the company’s Pro Plus series.
You get sequential read speeds of up to 180 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 130 MB/s. These speeds make Samsung’s Pro Plus microSD cards ideal for gaming and other high-performance applications. The cards are compatible with a wide range of products, including handheld game consoles, smartphones, tablets, cameras, drones, and more.
They are extremely durable too, with Samsung claiming extensive testing for protection against water, high temperatures, X-rays, and magnetic fields. These cards can survive drops from over 16 feet (nearly 5 meters) and are rated to resist wear out up to 10,000 swipes. Samsung backs up its claims with a 10-year limited warranty.
The Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus microSD cards will be available starting in January 2025. You can purchase them through Samsung.com and other retailers. The cards cost $23.99 for 128GB, $36.99 for 256GB, $68.99 for 512GB, and $125.99 for 1TB of storage. If you pre-register on Samsung’s website, the company offers a 30% discount on your purchase.
