We heard numerous rumors and now that the day is finally here, we come bearing bad news. Samsung removed Bluetooth capability from the beloved S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The company cited the fact that most users don’t use Air Actions or other Bluetooth features as the primary reason for the removal. Still, it doesn’t make much sense as no other technical reason was given. The removal of Bluetooth from the S Pen does make the Galaxy S25 Ultra slightly lighter, but that seems like a poor reason to remove a feature many enthusiasts love.
With the removal of the S-Pen, you will lose the following key features available on the Galaxy S24 Ultra:
- The new Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen can no longer be used to perform Air Actions. This was a feature that allowed you to use the S Pen like a magic wand.
- The S Pen’s remote shutter functionality no longer works with the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera app.
Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen Bluetooth Removal – Is It a Big Deal?
Admittedly, I never used the Air Action features on a daily basis. It was a cool demo to show friends that use an iPhone, but it isn’t a total dealbreaker for me. On the other hand, the remote shutter functionality is feature that I use at least 3 times a week on my S24 Ultra. The ability to take a group photo or video remotely is awesome when hanging out with friends and family. Anecdotally, I’ve noticed most Galaxy fans are more upset about the removal of this feature than anything else.
Of course, you can still use your S Pen for classic stylus functionality, including taking notes, Drawing Assist with Galaxy AI, and more. Indeed, the S Pen is still a differentiating factor for the Ultra lineup and makes it standout in a sea of similar flagships.
