Samsung’s Mid-Range Galaxy A36 Set for Selfie Camera Upgrade

by | Nov 13, 2024 | Galaxy A, News

Samsung may be planning a major selfie camera upgrade for its next-gen mid-range smartphones. Both the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 will reportedly feature a 12MP sensor for the front-facing camera. This year’s Galaxy A55 has a 32MP selfie camera, while the Galaxy A35 has a 13MP unit.

Galaxy A36 and A56 rumored to get 12MP selfie cameras

A few weeks ago, reliable Samsung insiders at Galaxy Club claimed that the company would equip the Galaxy A56 with a 12MP selfie shooter. The same sources now report that the Galaxy A36 would also get a 12MP sensor for its front camera. Interestingly, the two phones use two different 12MP cameras. Details are scarce, but the Dutch publication says the Galaxy A56 and A36’s selfie cameras have certain differences in quality.

If you look back, a 12MP unit may sound like a downgrade from the current models (32MP and 13MP). However, the new sensors are more advanced than the existing ones. A higher resolution sensor doesn’t necessarily mean better image quality. A lot of other factors determine the final outcome of a camera. Several flagship Samsung smartphones, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra, have a 12MP selfie camera too.

It’s not to say the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 will share selfie cameras with flagship models. As said earlier, we do not have enough details yet, so can’t confirm whether Samsung has previously used these 12MP sensors on any phones. However, at this point, the upcoming mid-range devices are shaping up to be quite exciting. We are expecting a design overhaul, with Samsung reintroducing camera bumps after about two years.

The publication says the Galaxy A56 and A36 will sport unchanged rear cameras — both have a 50MP primary shooter on the back. The former is expected to ship with Samsung’s newly launched Exynos 1580 processor. The 4nm chip brings substantial AI and graphics performance boost alongside camera enhancements. The Galaxy A36 is likely to ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or 7s Gen 2 chipset.
