For the past couple of years, Samsung Display has been supplying OLED panels for Apple’s devices, including the iPhone Pro and iPad Pro lineup. Now, it looks like the Korean firm may supply OLED panels for Apple’s iPad Mini lineup, too. The Cupertino tech giant is allegedly testing Samsung-made OLED panels for the next-generation iPad mini.
Apple is testing Samsung OLEDs for the upcoming iPad Mini
Noted tipster Digital Chat Station took to Weibo to provide an update on the ongoing developments in the tablet space. In their post, the tipster said, “iPad is also evaluating small-size OLED,” hinting that Apple is currently developing its next iPad Mini, which will feature a Samsung-made OLED. However, the tipster did not share any display specs, though an earlier report suggests the upcoming iPad Mini might feature an 8.5-inch OLED panel.
Interestingly, this is not the first time we have heard this news. Last year, a report revealed that Samsung Display is developing an 8-inch OLED panel for a future iPad mini. The report also mentioned that the Korean company plans to start mass production at its facility in Cheonan in the second half of 2025.
Apple is already using Samsung’s OLED displays in its 11-inch iPad Pro models. Following the expansion to the iPad Mini, the company may also adopt Samsung-made OLED panels for the iPad Air. However, while the iPad Pro models are using two-stack low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panels, the upcoming iPad mini and iPad Air may stick with single-stack low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) panels. As a result, these iPad models may offer lower brightness and continue to lack ProMotion support.
Last month, we reported that Samsung will supply its M14 OLED panel for the entire 2025 iPhone 17 models. Samsung also supplied OLED panels for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models last year. It’s great to see Samsung securing more display orders from one of its major clients, which could potentially help boost its struggling business.
