Samsung might soon bring back a feature it removed from One UI 6.1.1. The option to capture a GIF animation from Smart Select is reportedly coming back. Noted tipster Ice Universe recently revealed that this handy tool will return to Galaxy phones. They didn’t specify if it will return with One UI 7.0 or a separate update to devices running One UI 6.1.1.
Samsung to reintroduce GIF animation recording to Smart Select
One UI 6.1.1 debuted with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 last month. It introduced tons of AI features and other improvements. Among a host of changes, Samsung redesigned Smart Select to make it work like Google’s Circle to Search. However, in the process, it removed the ability to capture a GIF animation. Unsurprisingly, this irked some Galaxy users. They complained about it on social media and official forums.
It looks like Samsung has heard the complaints. The company is working on bringing the tool back to Galaxy phones. The information comes from Ice Universe, the most reliable source of Samsung leaks. The tipster took to X to share the good news, though they failed to specify when the GIF animation function would return to Smart Select. Since One UI 6.1.1 is the only build missing the feature, Samsung might be able to fix the error quickly.
Or maybe it plans to reintroduce GIF creation to Smart Select with the One UI 7.0 update. Based on Android 15, it’s the next major One UI update Samsung has in the pipeline. It should hit the public beta stage later this month, followed by a stable release in October or November. One UI 7.1 will debut with the Galaxy S25 series in January 2025.
