Samsung Health adds Health Records, Food Scanning & More Features

by | Oct 22, 2024 | News, Samsung Apps

Samsung has made its Samsung Health app more reliable and comprehensive with three new features. The company added food tracking, medication tracking, and easy access to health records, improving the user experience. These features are initially available in select markets, with plans to gradually expand to more regions.

Samsung Health updated with handy new features and improvements

Last year, Samsung introduced medication tracking to its Health app. It allowed users to easily keep a record of medications and access relevant information, including potential side effects and drug interactions or food-related reactions. The company said it is one of the most frequently used features in Samsung Health. It is now improving the feature with new tools.

The latest update allows users to scan their medications using their phone’s camera to add them to the list. Users can also easily monitor dosages, schedules, and medication progress. Alongside these feature enhancements, medication tracking is now available beyond the US, reaching South Korea and India. You can expect a wider rollout in the coming months.

Samsung Health is also gaining a new Health Records feature in the US. It allows users to access their medical records from clinics, hospitals, and diagnostic centers, all in one place. Samsung has partnered with various organizations to ensure accurate data and relevant information. Depending on the outcome of the initial run in the US, the company may release Health Records in other markets later.

“The Health Records feature guides users toward preventative care by offering meaningful insights and alerts that suggest next steps, such as recommending medical tests or actions,” Samsung explains. “By offering a holistic view of their health history — including vaccination and prescription records, past hospital visits and even specific test results — users can more effectively communicate with their healthcare providers…”

Last but not least, Samsung has improved Food Tracker in Samsung Health with a new barcode scanning tool. It makes it easier for users to log details about food, such as names, calorie content, and nutrition facts. Users can simply scan the barcode of food items to receive nutritional information automatically. This feature will be initially available in the US and select European countries. A global rollout will follow later.

With the addition of these new features, along with the integration of Galaxy AI, Samsung Health is evolving into a comprehensive tool for tracking various aspects of health and fitness. Expect further improvements in One UI 7.
