With the official launch just over a week away, Samsung has likely finalized the prices for its next foldables. Unfortunately, buyers may have to pay more this year, as rising component costs continue to push smartphone prices upward. Leaked European pricing has already hinted at a substantial increase across the board, and a new report suggests the same for the US. If accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will become Samsung’s first foldable to start above the $2,000 mark.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 could cost $100 more than their predecessors
According to the Korean media, Samsung is considering a $100 price increase for the base variants of its upcoming foldables. This means the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will start at $2,099 in the US for the 256GB model. That would make it Samsung’s first foldable smartphone to launch above the $2,000 threshold. The all-new, wide-format Galaxy Z Fold 8 could carry a starting price of $1,899.
The report does not mention any US price changes for the Galaxy Z Flip 8. However, the clamshell foldable could also see a jump of $100, putting its starting price at $1,199. The leaked European pricing discussed above pointed to a €100 hike for both legacy foldables (Fold 8 is a new product this year). In fact, higher storage variants are said to see much bigger hikes of $200 or more. The new watches debuting at the same event are also set to cost more than their predecessors.
These hikes are largely driven by rising component costs, particularly memory. According to market research firm Omdia, memory accounted for 26% of the bill of materials for premium smartphones priced above $800 during the first quarter of 2026, up sharply from 11% in the third quarter of 2025.
As RAM and NAND flash prices continue to rise, smartphone makers are finding it increasingly difficult to absorb those costs without passing at least some of them on to consumers. That could explain why higher storage variants, which use more expensive memory components, may see steeper price hikes.
Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8 at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22. The Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 will accompany the new foldables.
