Samsung has officially ended update support for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7, and Galaxy Tab S7+. These devices launched in August 2020 and have now completed their four-year support period. As a result, they will no longer receive updates from the company, not even security patches.
Galaxy Z Flip 5G and Tab S7 are no longer eligible for updates
Over the past few years, Samsung has updated its software update policy multiple times. Flagships and select mid-range models launched in 2021 and beyond are eligible for at least four major Android OS/One UI updates and five years of security patches. The support period has been extended to seven years for 2024 and newer flagships, including foldables.
Devices launched between 2019 and 2020, meanwhile, only receive up to three major Android OS updates and four years of security patches. There have been a few exceptions like Samsung updating the Galaxy S20 series for a fifth year. However, that’s the standard policy that the company applied to the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7, and Galaxy Tab S7+.
Launched with Android 10, these devices received updates to Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13. As of August 2024, they also received four years of security patches. Samsung has now duly dropped support for the trio. Unless critical, the company will not push any updates to them. There have been a few rare occasions of discontinued Galaxy devices getting updates.
It’s worth noting that the Galaxy Tab S7 FE is still eligible for updates. It debuted in May 2021 and should receive security patches until at least May next year. The tablet is done getting feature updates, though. The original Galaxy Z Flip, which arrived in early 2020, stopped receiving updates earlier this year. If you are using any of these devices, you should consider upgrading to a newer model.
