Samsung is developing its extended reality (XR) headset, Project Moohan — the first device to use the Android XR platform. The Korean firm showcased a prototype at the January Unpacked and MWC 2025 but didn’t reveal many details. Meanwhile, a new detail has surfaced on the web suggesting that Samsung is making its own motion controllers for its upcoming XR headset.
First-party motion controllers for Samsung’s XR Headset are in the works
Folks over at SamMobile have found evidence of first-party motion controllers for Samsung’s XR headset with the model number ET-OI610. The controller could feature wireless connectivity and motion sensors like any other AR/VR headset controller. It should offer enhanced accuracy, making it ideal for gaming. However, Samsung might sell the controller separately from the headset.
Motion controllers are handheld input devices that will be used to interact with Samsung’s upcoming XR (extended reality) headset. These devices allow users to navigate virtual environments, interact with objects, and play games by detecting hand movements and button presses.
Samsung is manufacturing its own motion controller rather than depending on third-party controllers from other companies. This could allow the firm to optimize the devices for its headset’s features, ensuring better integration, tracking accuracy, and user experience. While there is no official word on Samsung’s XR headset release, rumors suggest it may reveal the headset alongside the new foldables at the next Unpacked in July.
Speaking of the details we know so far about the headset, it will run on the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor with the Android XR operating system. You will be able to access Google apps like Chrome, Google Maps, and YouTube. It may boast two eye-tracking cameras and at least eight front-facing cameras. The headset could feature Sony’s flagship OLEDoS display with a size of 1.3 inches and a pixel density of around 3800 PPI.
