Samsung Could Bring Strap Mechanism Upgrades to Future Galaxy Watches, Hints Patent

by | Dec 3, 2024 | Galaxy Watch, News

Galaxy WatchSamsung has been filing a bunch of patents and trademarks lately, hinting that there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. According to a new patent Samsung published last week, some changes are coming to Samsung Galaxy’s watch strap mechanism, for the better.

Latest patent hints Samsung is exploring changes to the Galaxy watch strap detachable mechanism

A new Samsung patent was spotted on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), 91Mobiles reports. The patent hints that Samsung is working on a potential new detachable mechanism for the Galaxy Watch straps. To put it simply, Samsung wants to ease the process of detaching and attaching the Galaxy watch bands for you. Sooner or later.

FYI, the latest Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra already sport a quick-release mechanism. But what’s the harm in upgrading the experience for us? That’s exactly what Samsung is trying to do. If it comes through, there are many, many perks coming our way. According to the report, the patent says the new strap system has a core with two parts: one part stays in place (the first fastening portion), while the other can move (the second fastening portion).

The strap is a single piece made of two bands and a frame that connects to the core. The user can slide the strap over the core to connect the two parts, which can also be taken off if needed. The strap attaches to the core using grooves (hollow cutouts) and fastening portions.

Better and more comfortable watch strap mechanism could be on the way

As shared in the report, the patent reveals a new design to make it quicker to attach and detach watch bands on the go. This also works well for the fit, as the bands stay securely in place during wear. What happens when the patent-suggested mechanism comes to life, is that it would improve comfort and enhance accuracy.

While it offers many perks on paper, much of what also seems helpful in regular usage, Samsung hasn’t mentioned any release timeline yet.
