Samsung is considering adding a native app locker to Galaxy devices. While the first two One UI 7.0 beta builds do not include an App Lock feature, the company’s developers are evaluating its potential. If deemed valuable, future updates may introduce this useful privacy tool.
The stable One UI 7.0 update could bring App Lock to Galaxy devices
Galaxy devices lack a native app locker to hide apps. While Secure Folder lets you create a private space for apps, it doesn’t hide them from the app drawer. Instead, it creates a separate copy within a locked environment. Anything you do in an app within Secure Folder remains isolated from the main app. Secure Folder isn’t your typical app locker found in many other phones.
Unsurprisingly, Galaxy users have been asking for this tool for a long time. Samsung still refused to add the function to One UI 7.0, which is currently in beta. A disappointed user recently took to the official community forum to request the feature, pointing out that the Chinese version of One UI has it. And a forum moderator responded with some positive news.
According to them, Samsung’s development team is currently evaluating whether an App Lock feature will align with One UI’s design concept and goals. “If your suggestion aligns with our direction, we will consider applying it to the official release,” the moderator said, suggesting it could arrive with the final One UI 7.0 or 7.1 update next year.
Of course, Samsung could cancel the feature without any explanation. But we hope it offers this highly sought-after privacy tool to Galaxy users soon. It is expected to roll out One UI 7.0 Beta 3 next week, with the stable version coming in late January with the Galaxy S25 series. The new flagships launch on January 22. General sales may begin a week or two later.
