Remember when Samsung unveiled the yellow cutie-robot… err, Ballie? Five years after launching the futuristic robot at CES 2020, Samsung will now let you buy Ballie robots. Since the initial showcase, Samsung has equipped it with a projector and added some AI features. At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Samsung confirmed that Ballie will be available for purchase in the first half of the year.
You can soon buy a Samsung Ballie robot for yourself, this year only
As Samsung confirmed, the company is setting the stage for Ballie’s big debut in 2025. More specifically, in the first half of the year. The robot will speak English, Spanish, and Korean. However, Samsung is keeping some details under wraps. That’s why we don’t know the price, specific features, or specs, nor which regions, apart from the US, it will launch in. These details are being kept under wraps for now, but we’ll let you know as soon as we learn more.
Speaking to TechRadar, Samsung’s Head of Product, Home Entertainment, Lydia Cho, broke the silence about why the product was delayed. “We really wanted to perfect this, making sure it came to market at the right time, with the right features, and the right concept. So that’s why the process took a bit longer, but I think it’s really the right time with us launching VisionAI.”
Ballie is a three-wheeled robot designed to navigate your home, following you around with its pair of cameras, mini projector, speakers, microphone, and sensors that map your environment. Running on Tizen OS, it offers Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Ballie can respond to voice commands, control smart home devices, provide weather updates, answer questions, and even stream content onto walls. It may also recognize foot taps for additional input.
Meanwhile, Apple is also preparing to expand into the smart home segment starting this year. So, we’ll have to wait and see how the two rival giants’ products fare against each other.
