by | Mar 5, 2025 | Galaxy XR, News

Samsung’s most anticipated launch might be an Android XR headset, to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro. Samsung internally calls the Android XR headset, Project Moohan* (*Infinity in Korean). Once at January’s Unpacked event and more recently at MWC in Barcelona. Not much is known about the headset, except that it will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR+ Gen 2 chipset. This chipset supports on-device AI.

The headset runs the Android XR operating system, of which Google has shared a few screenshots. Now, a new report from South Korean sources reveals the display technology we can expect in Samsung’s upcoming Android XR headset.

Samsung’s Android XR headset could use Sony’s OLEDoS display tech

According to The Elec, Samsung’s upcoming Android XR headset will feature Sony’s flagship OLEDoS display. The headset will sport a 1.3-inch display with an impressive pixel density of approximately 3800 PPI. For comparison, the pixel density of the Apple Vision Pro’s OLEDoS is 3391 PPI, suggesting that Samsung’s Android XR headset could offer a sharper and clearer display.

The components for Samsung’s Android XR headset will go under mass production starting next month, according to the report. This means it could be released in the second half of the year, with a target launch in the third quarter. Additionally, Samsung is aiming for an annual shipment of around 100,000 units.

Based on previous rumors, Samsung’s Android XR headset will feature eight front-facing cameras and two inside for eye-tracking. The headset will also include sensors, a touchpad, and buttons for power and volume. Marques Brownlee (aka MKBHD) mentioned in a video that Samsung’s XR headset could work with handheld controllers.

With all that in mind, it certainly looks like Android XR could be one of Samsung’s most ambitious products in a while, which may make the wait worthwhile. We’ll likely learn more as we get closer to the proposed launch date.
