Samsung’s AI RAN Speed Optimizer Boosts 5G Speeds by Up to 52%

Samsung has successfully tested its AI-powered RAN Speed Optimizer (RSO) on a 5G network in Japan. The system improved 5G download speeds by up to 52% in real-world network conditions. The Korean firm conducted the trial with Japanese telecom operator KDDI.
Samsung tests its AI RAN Speed Optimizer on KDDI 5G standalone network
In late 2025, Samsung began a trial of its RAN Speed Optimizer in and around Tokyo. The testing area included dense urban, suburban, and rural regions. The AI system ran on KDDI’s commercial 5G Standalone (SA) network, using 100 MHz of 3.7 GHz spectrum across hundreds of cells.
Samsung’s RAN Speed Optimizer is part of its CognitiV Network Operations Suite (NOS), comprising AI tools and automation solutions. The system optimizes parameters for each individual cell to improve network performance. This replaces the old cluster-level method, which used the same settings for multiple cells. Thanks to an AI prediction model, the system can analyze site data and automatically suggest the best parameters for each cell.

During the trial, Samsung saw solid performance gains. Average 5G downlink speeds increased by 31% across the test area. In dense urban areas, improvements reached up to 52%. The trial proves that AI-based tools can improve the management of mobile networks. It can help operators automatically adjust network settings across different network scenarios. This also reduces manual work and improves cost efficiency.

This trial with KDDI exemplified how Samsung’s AI-powered innovation can bring advanced optimization to live commercial networks while facilitating steady, seamless connectivity in an array of different network environments,” said a Samsung executive.
Samsung Networks already offers several advanced 5G solutions, including chipsets, radios, and core systems. Now, this trial paves the way for new AI-based methods that improve network performance.
