As we await the debut of the Galaxy Z Flip FE next year, rumors suggest that OnePlus is already cooking up to rival the former. The Chinese company is reportedly working on an affordable clamshell foldable to take on the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip FE (or Flip FE).
OnePlus is planning to launch its Galaxy Z Flip FE rival
According to noted tipster Digital Chat Station (via Weibo), OnePlus is working on its first flip-style or clamshell foldable, which could launch in the second quarter of 2025, between April and June. If released, it would mark OnePlus’ second foldable, following the debut of the OnePlus Open in select markets last year.
The tipster also adds that the foldable will debut in the OnePlus Ace series, which is exclusive to China. However, OnePlus often releases global variants with an “R” suffix. On Weibo, the tipster asked users what features they’d like to see in the upcoming phone, and the top comment suggested a “periscope telephoto” lens. If this comes true, it could make things more challenging for the Galaxy Z Flip FE, which is essentially a Fan Edition.
At this point, details remain scarce, but the word on the street is that it could be a rebranded version of Oppo’s Flip series. Take this with a grain of salt, as it’s purely speculative at this stage. However, since OnePlus and Oppo are part of the same parent company, and OnePlus has done this before, another rebranding is entirely possible. For instance, the OnePlus Open was essentially a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N3, so we could see a similar approach here.
Galaxy Z Flip FE is coming soon, as well
Display expert Ross Young has confirmed that the Galaxy Z Flip FE is indeed coming next year. With the year drawing to a close and the Galaxy S25 series likely debuting in January, it might just be worth the wait.
