Samsung’s latest One UI 8.5 update is causing frustration for several Galaxy smartphone users. The update has reportedly triggered a strange dark mode issue in several popular Google apps, displaying odd gray colors. The company has yet to acknowledge the problem or confirm when a fix could arrive.

A weird dark mode bug appears to be causing gray tint issues in Google apps

Samsung recently pushed its latest stable One UI 8.5 update to several Galaxy smartphones. While the new software brings fresh features and visual refinements, the update appears to have also brought an annoying dark mode issue in Google apps. These include Gmail, Google Messages, Google Keep, and Google Fi.

According to user reports on Reddit and the Samsung Community (via Androidheadlines), affected Google apps are displaying an unusual combination of light gray and pitch-black colors. This makes the interface look unpolished and uncomfortable to use.

It looks like the issue mainly affects apps that rely on Google’s Material You design system. Material You dynamically switches the app’s user interface colors depending on the wallpaper and system theme. However, Samsung’s One UI 8.5 may conflict with Google’s theming settings. As a result, users are likely suffering from broken dark mode visuals.

Hopefully, Samsung will address the issue soon through a software patch. As of now, the stable One UI 8.5 update is hitting several Galaxy models across the S, Z, and A series. As more users install the update, reports related to the dark mode issue could continue to increase in the coming days. We’ll let you know if the company shares any word on the matter, so stay tuned.

Meanwhile, if you are experiencing the dark mode issue on your Galaxy smartphone, you can report it to Samsung. This could help the company identify the problem quickly and possibly accelerate the rollout of a fix in a future update.
