Samsung’s One UI 7 update promises to bring plenty of new features to Galaxy devices, but it might also remove some fan favorites. According to a recent leak, the new version will no longer support downloading of third-party edge panels. It turns out the update will also drop support for the DeX app for PC on Windows OS.
Samsung DeX for Windows PC to be discontinued with the One UI 7 update
Ahead of the rumored beta release in December, Samsung has been quietly updating its official websites with details about the update. In some cases, the company jumped the gun, prematurely announcing new features, icons, and UI changes. It recently updated the Samsung DeX page on its UK website to reveal the impending discontinuation of the Windows app.
“The DeX for PC on Windows OS will end support from One UI 7 version,” Samsung confirms. “We encourage customers to connect mobile phone and PC through the Link to Windows feature.” Of course, the DeX platform itself isn’t going anywhere, but Samsung is discontinuing the Windows app.
The Samsung DeX app for Windows PCs lets Galaxy users access their phone’s screen on a separate window on their computer. You can seamlessly transfer files between the two devices by dragging and dropping from the DeX window to the PC. Since Link to Windows already offers a similar function, it’s no surprise Samsung is discontinuing the DeX app.
One UI 7 will still let you use Samsung DeX to extend your Galaxy phone into a desktop-like experience by connecting a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. That was the whole purpose of the feature when Samsung first launched it. The feature got its name “DeX” as a contraction of “Desktop eXperience”. Samsung is rumored to begin One UI 7 beta by mid-December. Expect more leaks in the build-up to the official launch.
