A week ago, we reported that One UI 7.0 might bring an iPhone-like media player. Fast forward to today, and Samsung has surprised us with the launch of the One UI 7.0 beta on the Galaxy S24 series. Now that we’ve got our hands on the Android 15-based One UI 7.0, it’s the perfect time to confirm some of the rumors we’ve been eagerly waiting to see come true.
Samsung did it, One UI 7.0 indeed flaunts an iOS-like media player
Out of everything we’ve been testing, as soon as we got One UI 7.0 on our S24 Ultra, it was hard not to notice how similar the media player feels to iOS. And honestly, I’m not complaining. From day one, I’ve been saying that if something works well, maybe other brands should take inspiration from. So more and more people can enjoy it. I’m honestly really impressed with One UI 7.0’s media player. Here’s a comparison between it and iOS — and oh boy, it looks stunning!
There are a few differences, though. For one, the corners of the album in One UI 7.0 are more curved compared to the ones on iOS. Also, the One UI 7.0 media player has more buttons than the iOS’s, but that could be down to personal preference. The song title and artist’s name are placed above the media player on Samsung, while Apple puts them in the box.
Samsung also has a big ‘Media Output’ button, whereas the iPhone keeps it subtle with an AirPlay icon. That’s pretty much it. Both systems adapt the blurred background effect based on the album’s colors.
Remember, it’s not the final version yet
There’s still room for improvement, and I’m hopeful that the stable version will bring more animations and some nice changes. Maybe even small tweaks, like decluttering or others. The One UI 7.0 beta is out, but the stable version won’t arrive for at least another two months. So, make sure to check if your Galaxy device is eligible for the Android 15 update.
