Samsung recently rolled out the second One UI 7.0 beta update, addressing several bugs from the first release. The update also includes stability improvements and other minor changes. Among those is a minor tweak of notification icons on the lockscreen. Additionally, Samsung now only shows alerting notifications on the lockscreen by default.
One UI 7.0 Beta 2 brings notable changes to lockscreen notifications
In the first beta build, the lockscreen notification icons appeared in a translucent pill in the top left corner, with the carrier name above it. Samsung moved the icons next to the carrier name in Beta 2. More importantly, the pill is now gone. Notification icons are fully transparent and don’t have a separate housing. Icons and fonts are also smaller than before.
Additionally, One UI 7.0 Beta 2 has the “Show alerting notifications only” enabled by default. With this change, your lockscreen doesn’t show silent notifications unless you turn off this toggle in settings. One UI 7.0 already brings major UI and functional changes to Galaxy notifications compared to One UI 6.1. Samsung is regularly chopping and changing things to enhance the Galaxy experience.
The latest beta build introduces an unexpected change to the Quick Panel grid. By default, you can now set a larger grid that displays significantly more icons than before. While it may look a bit unusual, it provides quicker access to additional toggles. Samsung seems to be experimenting with different layouts to gather user feedback and fine-tune One UI 7.0 ahead of its official release early next year.
The Korean firm plans to ship the new version out of the box on the Galaxy S25 series — it could introduce One UI 7.1 with additional AI features and improvements. Other devices will receive this update following the launch of the new flagships. Rumors suggest the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra will go official on January 22, 2025.
