Samsung took its time with the One UI 6.1.1 rollout, ensuring the new features worked smoothly from day one. So far, Galaxy S24 users haven’t reported any major issues after installing the update. However, there are a few reports of a fingerprint recognition problem. For some, the device declines to recognize fingerprints. Others are facing trouble because fingerprint authentication activates on its own when the device is in their pocket.
Galaxy S24 fingerprint problems emerge following the One UI 6.1.1 update
Yesterday, Samsung started rolling out the One UI 6.1.1 update to Galaxy S24 users in its home country, South Korea. It brought a myriad of new features and enhancements to the devices, including several Galaxy AI tools and camera features debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. The company plans to gradually expand the update to other countries before rolling it out to more supported Galaxy phones and tablets globally.
It appears to be a fairly stable software build with no annoying bugs or functional irregularities. That said, the update doesn’t seem to be smooth sailing for some users. A Galaxy S24 user says their phone stopped accepting fingerprints after installing One UI 6.1.1. The registered fingerprint is recognized when checking via Settings. However, it doesn’t work when unlocking the device or authenticating payments on Samsung Wallet.
Their Galaxy S24 never had this problem before One UI 6.1.1. The user tried rebooting the device but it didn’t help. They took to the official Samsung community forum to report the issue. It’s unclear where the problem lies. Maybe re-registering the fingerprints could help. Other Galaxy S24 users who updated to One UI 6.1.1 don’t seem to have the same issue. However, there is at least one more user with a different fingerprint problem.
In this case, the affected Galaxy S24 unit tries unlocking itself when in the pocket. Even with accidental touch protection enabled, the device repeatedly triggers fingerprint authentication. Since the device is in the pocket, fingerprint authentication fails, prompting the user to enter their unlock PIN or password. Hopefully, these are one-off issues with no major underlying problems. The One UI 6.1.1 update goes global next week.
