Samsung has released its August security update for a bunch of Galaxy foldables. The latest security patch is available for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3. It doesn’t bring One UI 6.1.1. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 may get this update in the coming days.
Samsung updates Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and more to the August patch
The August SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for Galaxy smartphones and tablets patches 50 vulnerabilities. These include 35 Android OS security flaws, 14 Galaxy security flaws, and one Samsung Semiconductor issue. At least two of these vulnerabilities are critical flaws potentially allowing remote access to affected devices.
Samsung has been pushing the update to patch the issues to eligible models for a few days now. It has already updated the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, and several other devices. The August SMR is now rolling out to Galaxy foldables launched in 2023, 2022, and 2021. The update is currently available in the US but should go global soon.
The August update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 bears the firmware version CXG6 (the last four characters of the build number). The firmware version for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 is FXGJ, while the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 are picking up the firmware version IXG6. The update is all about security fixes with no other changes.
Samsung was supposed to push One UI 6.1.1 to older foldables in August, but that feature update has been delayed. Hopefully, it won’t be a long delay. We will keep you posted. Note that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip from 2020 are no longer receiving monthly security patches, so they may or may not pick up the latest release. These aging foldables have already stopped receiving feature updates, so don’t expect One UI 6.1.1.
