Samsung is rapidly rolling out the October security update to more Galaxy devices. Recently, the company released the latest security patch for the Galaxy S24 FE and the S24 series flagships. It is now pushing the update to the 2023 foldable lineup, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5. The Galaxy A13, an aging budget phone, has received the update as well.
Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and more devices get the October update
The October security update is currently rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 in Europe, while the Galaxy A13 is getting it in Asia. The new firmware build numbers for the trio are F946BXXS3DXI9, F731BXXS3DXI9, and A135FXXS9EXI2, respectively. Samsung will soon expand the update to other regions, including the US. Other eligible Galaxy devices will also receive the October patch in the coming days.
This month’s Security Maintenance Release (SMR) for the Galaxy family addresses 42 vulnerabilities. Seven of those are classified as critical bug fixes by Samsung and Google. If exploited, those vulnerabilities could pay way for remote code execution, potentially allowing remote access to threat actors. Google fixed two critical flaws in Android OS while Samsung fixed five critical vulnerabilities in Galaxy components.
Samsung offers excellent update support to its phones, with timely rollouts of the latest security patches for eligible models. You should always install new SMRs wherever available. While the October release doesn’t bring any new features or enhancements to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and Galaxy A13, users are advised to install the update as soon as possible to protect their devices from critical security issues.
Usually, Samsung notifies Galaxy users when a new update is available. But you can always manually check for updates anytime and anywhere. Simply go to Settings > Software update and tap on Download and install. If no updates show up, wait a few days and check again.
