It’s Not the End of the Road for Samsung’s Bluetooth S Pen Yet

by | Mar 31, 2025 | News

Samsung’s decision to remove Bluetooth functionality from the S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra left many fans disappointed. The beloved Air Actions, which allowed users to control their phones remotely with gestures, disappeared as a result. However, recent leaks about the Galaxy Tab S10 FE suggest that Samsung isn’t entirely done with Bluetooth-enabled S Pens just yet.

According to leaks, the S Pen bundled with the upcoming mid-range tablet will support Air Actions. In other words, it retains Bluetooth connectivity and a built-in battery for remote gestures. This raises an interesting question: Could Samsung bring back the Bluetooth S Pen for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, or is the company fully committed to a lighter stylus?

Samsung dropped the Bluetooth S Pen to make flagships lighter

Samsung’s reasoning for ditching Bluetooth in the S25 Ultra’s S Pen was to reduce weight. Without Bluetooth, the stylus no longer requires a battery, making it lighter. The Galaxy S25 Ultra (218 grams) is substantially lighter than the S24 Ultra (233 grams). Given how Samsung is pushing for sleeker phones, it’s possible that the S26 Ultra will follow the same path.

However, if user demand is strong enough, Samsung might reconsider. Perhaps the company could offer two versions of the S Pen: a basic, non-Bluetooth stylus stored inside the phone and a separate Bluetooth-enabled one sold as an accessory. Samsung did hint at the latter possibility for the S25 Ultra as well, but only briefly. It later said it was a mistake, and such an S Pen isn’t in the pipeline.

While the Ultra flagships might prioritize a lighter design, Samsung’s foldables (the Fold series) and tablets are a different story. These devices don’t have a built-in S Pen silo, which means the company can continue offering a heavier, feature-rich Bluetooth S Pen for them, enabling remote gesture support for presentations, media control, and creative tasks.

Samsung has yet to announce a launch date for the Galaxy Tab S10 FE series. The Bluetooth S Pen bundled with these tablets isn’t expected to work with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but maybe we’ll get choices next year. Only time will tell.
