Has Samsung quietly released the One UI 6.1.1-based update?

by | Aug 22, 2024 | News, One UI

Samsung is rolling out a new AI feature to several low-cost Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Tab S9 FE, Galaxy A55, and many other mid-range phones are receiving Circle to Search. Interestingly, the update file for some devices is huge, weighing nearly 1GB. The big file size has left some users wondering if it’s the One UI 6.1.1-based update.

Is Samsung rolling out the One UI 6.1.1-based update to some phones?

Introduced on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, One UI 6.1.1 is the latest version of Samsung’s custom software. It is based on Android 14 and brings new Galaxy AI features, camera improvements, and more. The company will roll out One UI 6.1.1 to older foldables and tablets. Some eligible non-folding phones will receive the new goodies with a new One UI 6.1 update.

Samsung was expected to begin the One UI 6.1.1 rollout in early August but it didn’t. The update has been delayed indefinitely, so there’s no telling if it will arrive before the end of August. In the meantime, the Korean firm recently started pushing Circle to Search to mid-range devices. The AI-powered Google feature is rolling out to several low-cost devices globally.

While it initially seemed like a normal feature update, the size of the OTA (over the air) packages has confused some Galaxy users — the Galaxy S21 FE’s latest update weighs nearly 1GB. There are speculations of the new updates being based on One UI 6.1.1. However, we believe they aren’t. Samsung usually pushes new One UI versions or big feature updates to flagship models.

The Galaxy S21 FE getting the One UI 6.1.1-based update ahead of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a bit odd. Of course, the changelog for the latter is substantially bigger because it’ll pick more AI features and camera improvements. But it still doesn’t feel right for Samsung to overlook the latest flagship. We may be wrong, but we hope we aren’t. Hopefully, the big new feature update will drop soon for all eligible devices.
