Recommendation systems are everywhere, from Spotify suggesting your next favorite artist to Netflix queuing up shows you’ll probably binge next. So it’s not surprising that Google might want to bring that same convenience to your Gmail inbox. And it looks like that could be happening soon — or at least, it’s in the works.

Spotted in Gmail for Android v2025.04.06.745293309, several lines of code point to a feature called “Related Emails”. These were first noticed by Android Authority, with ever-resourceful AssembleDebug breaking down what they might mean. Some notable strings include “Based on your emails” and “Current email” which suggest Gmail could start showing you emails connected to the one you’re currently reading — not in a threaded reply way, but possibly based on topic, sender, or shared details.

It’s still unclear how Gmail will decide which emails are related. It might analyze keywords in the message, look at frequent contacts, or even check for shared files, calendar invites, or locations. For instance, if you’re reading an email about an upcoming trip, Gmail could surface other travel-related emails, like flight bookings or group chats about the same event.

If it works well, this feature could make it much easier to rediscover old conversations, tie loose ends together, or simply find relevant emails without digging through search. Think of it like a smarter, more personalized inbox that adapts to what you’re looking at in the moment.

As of now, the feature isn’t live. There are no visible changes in the app, and tapping around doesn’t reveal anything new, as confirmed by Android Authority. Still, with so much of our lives in email, even small improvements in how we navigate it could be a big deal. We’ll be watching closely to see if “Related Emails” rolls out in future Gmail updates.
