The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition might come loaded with a range of upgrades. The slimmest Samsung foldable yet could offer the best camera setup. Shortly after rumors of an upgraded under-display selfie camera, we have information about its primary rear shooter. It appears Samsung will equip the device with the same 200MP camera as the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition might feature a 200MP camera
Yesterday, renowned leaker Evan Blass revealed that Samsung’s upcoming slim foldable will be called the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition instead of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. He also shared the device’s dimensions. It is allegedly 10.6mm thick when folded and 4.9mm when unfolded. In comparison, the Fold 6 is 12.1mm and 5.6mm thick, respectively.
Considering the thinner build, people wondered if the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition would feature worse cameras than the Fold 6. However, it appears the opposite would happen. The tipster vaguely suggested that the new foldable sports a 200MP camera with 2x optical quality zoom. It sounds like the same 200MP ISOCELL HP3 sensor used for the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s primary camera.
If true, we are in for a massive camera upgrade from the Fold 6’s aging 50MP sensor. There’s no word yet on its ultrawide and zoom cameras, as well as its external selfie camera that sits above the cover display. The under-display selfie camera over the folding screen, meanwhile, is said to be a 5MP sensor, a big upgrade from the 4MP unit Samsung has been using since 2021.
To create enough space for quality cameras and a sizeable battery, Samsung made the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition bigger. Its inner folding display measures 8 inches diagonally, while the cover display measures 6.5 inches. The Fold 6 has 7.6-inch and 6.3-inch screens. The company aims to pit the device against the ultra-thin Chinese foldables. Time will tell if Samsung’s efforts pay off.
