Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Wide, Flip 8 Chipsets Revealed in New Leak

Samsung foldables have long relied on Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. But that changed last year with the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 (review) and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE (review), which used Exynos chipsets instead. That naturally raises the question. Will the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Wide, and Flip 8 use Snapdragon or Exynos chips? Put simply, which foldable will use which chipset?
Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Wide appear ready to pack Snapdragon chipsets
Thankfully, we don’t have to guess much. Source code allegedly accessed by serial leaker Erencan Yılmaz appears to have the answer. According to it, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (SM-F976) and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide (SM-F971) will use Snapdragon SoCs, while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 (SM-F776) could use either an Exynos or Snapdragon chipset.
To be frank, things look quite confusing for the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Whether Samsung will split the chips across different markets — such as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in select regions and the Exynos 2600 everywhere else — remains to be seen. Ideally, it won’t take long from here to get a clear answer.
But considering how bullish Samsung has been on the Exynos 2600, and the predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, already shipped globally with the Exynos 2500, there’s a good chance the company may go all in on its in-house silicon for the Flip 8. Still, nothing’s set in stone yet.
As the leaker suggests, and in line with earlier rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide look set to pack the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The latter will introduce a completely new form factor for Samsung, and as the name suggests, it’ll be wider. CAD-based renders, along with what appear to be official renders, have surfaced in recent days, which should help if you’re unsure which one to pick.
