Galaxy Z Fold 7 Competitor, OnePlus Open 2 Cancelled: Here’s Why

by | Feb 13, 2025 | Galaxy Z, News

What could have been strong competition for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 is no longer happening. The OnePlus Open 2 could have brought several upgrades, including an almost imperceptible crease and a thickness as slim as the USB-C port allows. It would’ve been a solid alternative to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Oppo typically keeps its top-shelf devices out of the US market. Unfortunately, that’s not the case this time. OnePlus Open product manager has confirmed that the “2” has been canceled for this year.

“At OnePlus, our core strength and passion lie in setting new benchmarks and challenging the status quo across all product categories. With that in mind, we’ve carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices, and we have made the decision not to release a foldable this year,” OnePlus Open’s product manager, Vale G, explained.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 has one less competitor as OnePlus Open 2 gets canceled

While some of you may be excited by the news, OnePlus canceling the Open 2 for this year isn’t necessarily good news. According to rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be as solid as ever. But healthy competition always leads to improvements. OnePlus’ parent company, Oppo, will still be releasing the Oppo Find N5, though it may not be available in the US. However, it could make its way to European and Asian markets.

Oppo plans to unveil the Find N5 on February 20, with a global release. However, the chances of it hitting US market are slim. Pun intended. “As Oppo takes the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5, we’re committed to developing products that will redefine multiple categories and bring you experiences that are innovative and exciting, all while staying true to our Never Settle mantra,” Vale added.

According to rumors, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have an 8-inch display. It could be as thick as just 10mm. Furthermore, it will also fix the crease and have bigger vapor chamber cooling system. Another leak suggests there won’t be pricing changes, but take this with a pinch of salt.
