Samsung’s next Ultra smartwatch could bring two big hardware upgrades. A new leak suggests the upcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 may feature a dramatically brighter display alongside much stronger protection against dust and water. It also confirms a massive battery.
Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could feature an incredibly bright screen
According to the latest information shared by tipster Ice Universe on Weibo, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 may boast a display capable of reaching 5,000 nits of peak brightness. If accurate, that would be a substantial improvement over the current Galaxy Watch Ultra and would make the display much easier to read under direct sunlight.
The leak further claims Samsung will use its latest OCF (On-Cell Film) OLED technology for the display. The company showcased this next-generation OLED panel technology earlier this year, highlighting benefits such as higher brightness, improved power efficiency, and a thinner panel design.
Moreover, this leak hints at an IP69K rating as well, going beyond the IP68 certification found on most flagship smartphones and smartwatches today. While IP68 mainly protects against dust and prolonged water immersion, IP69K adds resistance to high-pressure, high-temperature water jets, ensuring better protection against harsh environmental conditions.
Last but not least, the tipster confirms that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will come with an 800mAh battery. That’s a massive boost over the original Watch Ultra’s 590mAh unit. A larger battery combined with a more efficient OLED panel and processor improvements could allow the new watch to last noticeably longer between charges.
As with all pre-launch rumors, these details should be treated cautiously until Samsung makes the smartwatch official. The company may unveil the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 alongside the Watch 9 series and its latest foldables next month. The Unpacked event will likely take place on July 22 in London. Stay tuned.
