Galaxy Watch users are running into a frustrating issue that’s hard to ignore. Battery drain is nothing new, but this time it’s hitting where it hurts most. Normally, you can rein in a rogue app or just kick it to the curb. But when a core system service starts acting up, you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Galaxy Watch battery woes pile up and Play Services is in the spotlight

Reports are piling up from users who say their Galaxy Watch battery life has taken a nosedive. What’s important here is that the culprit doesn’t appear to be a random third party app. Instead, it appears to be Google Play Services. If anything, that’s a critical background component that keeps apps talking to Google’s ecosystem.

Some of the numbers being shared on Reddit are wild (via Android Authority). One user claims Google Play Services chewed through nearly 70% of their battery after a single charge cycle. Another screenshot paints an even grimmer picture, showing almost total battery consumption. Even the more “normal” cases hover around 30%, which is still way out of line.

I checked it on my Galaxy Watch 8, on which it’s around 16.1%, sitting at the top. Under typical conditions, Google Play Services runs quietly in the background and barely makes a dent in battery usage. Seeing it gobble up this much power is definitely not par for the course, and it suggests something’s gone off the rails.

For now, there’s no clear fix, and users are left scratching their heads. Tweaking settings might help a bit, but it’s hardly a silver bullet. Until a proper update rolls out, Galaxy Watch owners may just have to grin and bear it, keeping a charger close by while the situation gets sorted.
