Google Messages rolls out a “double tap to heart” gesture
As part of its efforts to enhance Google Messages, the company regularly updates the app, introducing new features and improving existing ones. The “double tap to heart” gesture is a new tool aimed at improving the user experience. We have been tracking the development of this feature since February 2024. After months of testing, Google is now rolling out the tool to all Android devices, including Galaxy phones.
As the name suggests, Google’s “double tap to heart” feature allows users to quickly respond to messages by sending a red heart emoji. Instead of pressing and holding a message to access reaction options and then selecting the heart reaction, you can now simply double-tap a message. When the feature reaches your Galaxy, you will see a small prompt below an incoming message to notify you. The prompt goes away afterward.
As things stand, you cannot customize the default reaction for the double-tap gesture. Some might want to react with a thumbs-up rather than a red heart — as 9to5Google points out, thumbs-up is a more universal reaction to messages. Hopefully, Google plans to make this feature customizable later. We will let you know when we have more information.
Samsung plans to gradually replace its in-house messaging app with Google Messages as the default messaging service on Galaxy devices. The plan is to enable a global RCS adoption for a more seamless and interoperable messaging experience across all mobile devices. Keep Google Messages updated on your Galaxy to receive new features and enhancements.
