For the first time, Samsung is incorporating a MediaTek chipset in its flagship Android tablets. The Galaxy Tab S10 series will run the Dimensity 9300+ globally. However, the new tablets may make history in another significant way. The Ultra model is set to be the most expensive product to ever feature a MediaTek processor. That’s despite an unchanged price.
Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra to keep an unchanged price tag
Samsung arguably makes the best flagship Android tablets. Its Tab S series offers everything you want from a tablet. After releasing three models of the Tab S8 and Tab S9, the company is allegedly going back to two models with the Tab S10 lineup. It is removing the base model and releasing the Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra, possibly later this month.
Recent leaks suggest Samsung will keep the prices of the new tablets unchanged over their predecessors. The Tab S10+ will cost similarly to the Tab S9+ and so on. In other words, the Plus model will start at $999/ €1,119 and the Ultra at $1,199/ €1,339 (for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variants). The price increases with an increase in RAM and storage capacity.
The costliest variant — the 5G-enabled Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage — will allegedly carry a price tag of €1,909 in Europe, and potentially over $1,600 in the US. This makes it the most expensive product with a MediaTek processor yet. Samsung setting a new record without a price hike for its new tablets. Tells you about the premium price tags of its tablets.
What makes this particularly noticeable is that the company switched from Quamcomm’s Snapdragon chips to MediaTek because of pricing. The former charges more for its flagship processors. However, Samsung isn’t passing the cost savings to consumers. A price drop for the Galaxy Tab S10 series would have been massive, but not to be. Expect an official announcement soon.
