Now that the Galaxy S25 series is official, we can finally confirm a bunch of rumors—and toss out some of the wilder claims. Just hours before Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 lineup during Galaxy Unpacked in San Jose, top leaker Evan Blass suggested that the Galaxy S25 Ultra would feature Corning Gorilla Armor 2. So, did the rumor pan out? Well, yes. And we’ve got some intriguing tidbits to go along with it.
Galaxy S25 Ultra gets a new Corning Gorilla Armor 2
Samsung and Corning are practically best friends in the tech world. Two years ago, when Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S23, it introduced Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Fast forward to now, and we’re onto even better things. Time sure flies. As the rumors suggested, the Galaxy S25 Ultra indeed features Gorilla Armor 2. In a press release, Samsung describes the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Gorilla Armor 2 as “the industry’s first scratch-resistant, anti-reflective glass ceramic cover material for mobile devices.”
In the press release, Samsung makes some bold claims, stating that Gorilla Armor 2 “survived drops of up to 2.2 meters on a surface replicating concrete.” But before you’re tempted to test that out, Samsung clarifies that the results come from “Corning lab tests.” The footnotes further reiterate that this durability claim is “based on Corning’s internal lab testing.”
That covers durability, and we’re cautiously optimistic about Samsung’s claims. But honestly, unless you have a deep grudge against your phone, why would you even try that? For me, the standout feature of the Galaxy S24 series was the anti-reflective screen. Before the Galaxy S25 series launched, I had written, “I just wish Samsung had given it [the anti-reflective screen] more love when the Galaxy S24 series dropped because it really deserved a shoutout.”
There are likely screen improvements with the Galaxy S25 series, but unfortunately, Samsung doesn’t explicitly mention them in the press release. And please, don’t drop your phone.
