Galaxy S25 to Support Qi2 Wireless Charging, Magnetic Accessories

by | Dec 10, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series could open the door for a new range of magnetic accessories and enhanced wireless charging. The upcoming flagships will allegedly support the Qi2 wireless charging standard. The Galaxy Ring is the only product in Samsung’s portfolio that supports Qi2.

Samsung tipped to bring Qi2 wireless charging to the Galaxy S25 series

Qi2 is the latest wireless charging standard from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Announced early last year, it was developed in collaboration with Apple. The new standard is based on Apple’s MagSafe technology. This ensures perfect magnetic alignment with wireless chargers for faster charging. Additionally, you can attach MagSafe-compatible accessories like wallets and pop sockets to the back of your phone.

Despite all the benefits, Qi2 has seen a relatively slow adoption from companies beyond Apple. As mentioned earlier, Samsung offers Qi2 charging only on the Galaxy Ring. It appears the company will finally bring the new standard to the masses with the Galaxy S25 series early next year.

The report comes from the trusted Samsung leaker Ice Universe (via @Jukanlosreve on X). The tipster confidently claims that the Galaxy S25 lineup will support Qi2 wireless charging. The upcoming flagships are expected to boast 15W wireless charging. The wired charging speed goes up to 45W, though the base model tops out at just 25W.

It’s worth mentioning that Qi2 doesn’t offer magnetic alignment as standard. Instead, it is an optional feature that companies can add to their products. It’s unclear if Samsung will offer magnetic alignment for accessories or only Qi2 wireless charging on the Galaxy S25 series. More details should emerge in the coming weeks.

Leaks point to a late January launch of the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. The event, which could take place on January 22, 2025, may also bring a few other products. Additionally, Samsung could tease its upcoming XR headset or smart glasses. The XR wearable is expected to go official in the second half of 2025, potentially alongside the new foldables.
