While Galaxy S24 users are eagerly anticipating the One UI 7.0 stable rollout in April, Samsung is already testing One UI 8.0 on the Galaxy S25 series. if you needed any additional proof, Samsung tipster Tarun Vats on X just spotted the Galaxy S25 running One UI 8.0 on GeekBench. The benchmarks aren’t remarkable, just a tad bit higher than the Galaxy S25 scores with One UI 7.0. Still, it is great to see Samsung making progress.
We previously heard that Samsung was testing the upcoming OS on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and this benchmark shows that they have expanded to testing on the base S25 as well. Hopefully this means good news for Galaxy users. Samsung could decide to release One UI 8.0 ahead of schedule after the severe delays with One UI 7.0. One UI beta testing typically begins around August of each year. The stable release follows in the fall during Samsung’s developer conference. In 2024, Samsung deviated from this schedule quite a bit. To our extreme disappointment, One UI 7.0 beta began for S24 users in December 2024. The stable version has yet to release for the Galaxy S24 series.
Wha to Expect From One UI 8.0
Not much is known about One UI 8.0 just yet, we expect the update to be a relatively minor change. Given that One UI 7.0 was a massive overhaul, it makes sense for Samsung to pump the brakes a bit. It seems likely that One UI 8.0 will focus on under the hood improvements, optimizing the underlying changes made in 2024.
Even so, we certainly have our own wishlist of what we’d like to see Samsung include in their next major update. We can also get a fairly good idea of what might arrive by looking at Google’s Android 16 beta. One feature we’d love is the addition of third-party lock screen widgets, which get native support in Android 16.
All in all, the early tests for One UI 8.0 seem encouraging. If Samsung can get things in line for an early beta, we might see two major platform releases in 2025. One UI 7.0 arrives in stable starting April 7 in South Korea, with the US following on April 10. Stay tuned for more on One UI 8.0 as more features are revealed!
