Google’s Gemini Nano with multimodality functionality is currently only available for the Pixel 9 series phones. However, it could change early next year. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series smartphones are reportedly next in line to get Gemini Nano’s multimodal feature. The reports came soon after MediaTek announced that its Dimensity 9400 chipset will support Gemini Nano with multimodal functionality. This chipset is said to power the Galaxy S25 and S25+ models.
Galaxy S25 could offer Gemini Nano’s multimodal feature, thanks to Dimensity 9400 SoC
Just yesterday, MediaTek announced that its next-gen flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9400, will support Gemini Nano’s multimodal functionalities. The company didn’t announce which smartphone (s) would debut with the new chipset. However, the Galaxy S25 and S25+ are solid contenders to utilize the Dimensity 9400 SoC. The hint for the chipset for the S25 and S25+ models came from a blog by Google introducing “AlphaChip”.
There’s a possibility that the vanilla Galaxy S25 and S25+ models could utilize the Dimensity 9400 SoC in global markets. This chipset will enable support for Google’s Gemini Nano AI’s multimodal functionality. For the uninitiated, the multimodal feature focuses on offering on-device capabilities.
The upgraded Nanoi model powers several AI features that run locally on the phones. It helps your device understand the context within photos, audio, and text. It powers features like Pixel Screenshots, Talkback, Pixel Recorder, and more on-device itself.
The multimodal is not to be confused with the regular Gemini Nano. Google’s Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold utilize the Tensor G4 chipset to offer multimodal capability.
A Samsung executive already confirmed the S25 series will run Google’s on-device AI model
Notably, Samsung executive Cho Cheol-min, MD at the company’s System LSI Division, already confirmed that the S25 series will run Google’s on-device AI model. Since the S25 and S25+ will utilize the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, as per reports, the next-gen Nano model is almost confirmed to run on these phones. Since the S25 won’t debut before early 2025, we can expect the rumor mill to offer more details on the matter.
